Gerald "Jerry" Wayne Gates, of Cabot, was born February 19, 1925 and passed away on November 8, 2009 at the age of 84 with his loving family around him. He was a kind and loving man. He was a member of America's Greatest Generation having served in the 1st Marine Division in WWII with honors. His service included fighting in four campaigns and he was wounded in three of them receiving many medals and Presidential commendations for his heroism under fire.

Jerry was born in Big Cabin, Oklahoma the second son of seven children. He particularly admired his mother Emma Gates, who was probably his strongest influence throughout his life.

He is survived by his wife, Jenny Gates; sons Donnie, Johnny and Glen Gates; his siblings include his brothers Gene Gates, Harvey Gates and his sister Mary Ellen Hull; additionally, he leaves behind step-children, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Memorial Services will be held at the Cabot United Methodist Church in Cabot on Monday, November 16th at 1:00 p.m.
