Joe Abner Vassaur Jr, age 93, of Cabot, formerly of Pine Bluff passed away on Tuesday May 26, 2015 in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was born June 8, 1921 in Delaware, Arkansas to the late Joe Abner and LuCinda Rainwater Vassaur Sr, and spent his youth in Altheimer.
Joe was a kind, gentle and thoughtful man. He served in the United States Army during World War II in North Africa. He retired from a career with the Cotton Belt Railroad. He and his wife were members of the Cotton Pickers RV Club and traveled all over the country and he loved to fish. Joe had an exceptional memory and was very loved by his family. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by two wives Mary Holman and Bobby Lancaster Thomas; sisters Vera Vassaur Clark and Vilas Vassaur Taylor; brothers Aubrey and William R. Vassaur.
He is survived by two stepsons Wayne (Terri) Thomas of Russellville and Raymond (Sandra) Thomas of Cabot; three grandchildren Matthew Thomas, Christy Kittinger and John Thomas; six great-grandchildren; eleven loving nieces and nephews who knew him as Uncle Jr and a host of other friends and family and his faithful dog Lady.
Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday May 31, 2015 at Thomas Funeral Chapel. Graveside Service with Military Honors will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday June 1, 2015 at Memorial Park Cemetery 6707 Dollarway Road Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
