Obituary

Lester Allen Barnett, 95, of Cabot, passed away February 3, 2020. He was born September 22, 1924 in Hamburg, Arkansas to the late Alpha and Lucy Doss Barnett. After serving in the Army, Lester became known for his time in the lumber industry, where he ultimately served as President for Planters Lumber Company. He was a member of a gospel quartet for a number of years, as well as Song Director for Victory Baptist Church. At the time of his death, Lester was a 30+ year member of Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. He was an avid gardener and loved fishing, watching sports, tending to his yard and spending time as "Papaw" with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of seventy years, Freddie Quandt Barnett; son, Mark D. Barnett and eleven brothers and sisters.

Lester is survived by his two granddaughters, Sarah (Kevin) Barton and Emily (Tyler) Richard; two great-grandsons, Beau Barton and Rhett Richard; sister, Lois Barnett Keith; daughter, Tonya Mahlen.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 6, 2020 at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church with Pastor Dennis Wilson and Tom Hart officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Interment will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, 10415 Pleasant Cutoff, Cabot. Arrangements by Thomas Funeral Service, (501) 941-7888.
