Opal Maxine
Furr
Feb 29, 1916 — Jul 6, 2020
Cabot
Opal Maxine Sprague Donaldson Furr, 104, of Cabot, passed away July 6, 2020. She was born February 29, 1916 in Colony, Anderson County, Kansas to the late Arzy and Hazel Beal Sprague. Opal was a leap year baby, so she was really only 26 years old. She was the oldest of eight children. Her dad owned a 160-acre farm that later expanded to 680 acres. They raised hogs, cattle and chickens.
At the age of twenty-five years, Opal married her first husband, Clarence Donaldson. They had three children, Ralph and twins, Geary and Loretta. They made their home in Garnet, Kansas. When the children were old enough for school, Opal went to work as a cafeteria employee in the public school systems in Kansas and North Little Rock, Arkansas. Due to Clarence's job as an electrician for the Missouri Pacific Railroad, the family moved to North Little Rock in 1957. Clarence and Opal were married for twenty-five years. He passed away in 1965 from a heart attack. After two and a half years of being a widow, Opal met and married Robert Furr. They were married for eighteen years until his death in 1986. They owned and ran a sandwich shop in North Little Rock for several years. Opal Furr attributed her long life to hard work, happiness and eating the right kinds of foods. She enjoyed dancing, quilting, sewing and cooking. In addition to her parents and her two husbands, Opal was preceded in death by her children, Ralph Donaldson and Loretta Donaldson Berkshire; sisters, Lorene Camp-Webster and Vera Terrel and brothers, Harold Sprague and Kenneth Sprague.
Left to cherish Opal's memory are her son, Geary Donaldson; sisters, Blanche Ford and Violet Holt; brother, Vernon Spraque; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grand children.
