Raymond Lloyd Jones, age 89, of Cabot, died Tuesday, May 27, 2008. He was born February 1, 1919 in Dermott (Bellaire), Arkansas to Slater Cisero and Ernestine (Griswood) Jones. He grew up in the Hill Creek area of Plummerville and the Bellaire community of Dermott.

Raymond was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He spent 21 years in the Army serving in the South Pacific and Korea. After retiring from the service in 1962, Raymond began work and retired from Fort Roots VA Hospital in North Little Rock. He was a 32 Degree Mason, a member of Masonic Lodge 319 of Cabot, Arkansas and received his 50 year pin in 2008. Those friends and family who knew Raymond will remember his love of the outdoors whether it be fishing, hunting or gardening. He was a friend to many.

A Baptist by faith, Raymond was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cabot.

He is predeceased by his parents and brothers, Elmo, Afton Clyde, Clifton and Charles Jones and sisters, Cleo Odom, Garnita Cox and Audrey Jones.

He leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Edna Ellington Jones and sister Nadine Chaney of Fremont, California.

Raymond had a wonderful singing voice and spent many days teaching his grandchildren songs under the dogwood tree. Those children and grandchildren left to cherish his memory are: daughters, Janet (C. Lee) Rollins and Rebecca (Mike) Smith, both of Lonoke, Arkansas; sons Raymond, Jr. (Evon) of Dermott, Arkansas and Jim (Gwen) Jones of Cabot, Arkansas; grandchildren, Shelly Rollins (Chris) Sass of Woodstock, illinois, Lori Rollins (Eddy) Green of Searcy, Arkansas, Kristin Smith (Tom) Crowder of Camden, Arkansas, Lindsay Smith of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Sarah and Nathan Jones of Cabot, Arkansas. Raymond was also Pa Pa to 9 great-grandchildren, Cameron, Chandler and Carleigh Sass, Emily Rollins, Eddy, Jr., Gracie, Shane and Logan Green and Camille Crowder.

Visitation will be 3:00 to 9:00 pm on Thursday, May 29, 2008 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Thomas Funeral Service in Cabot. Graveshide Services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Friday, May 30, 2008 at Dermott Cemetery in Dermott, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, the family requestss that memorials be sent to Arkansas Hospice 3022 S. 2nd St. Cabot, AR 72023.
