Richard Joseph Rogers, 75, of Cabot, passed from this world Sunday, April 11, 2021 at his home.  He was born December 4, 1945 in Paris, Texas to the late Herbert Eugene and Adella Elizabeth (Delong) Rogers.  In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Adella Jean (Jeanne) Duryea.

Richard spent his early years in Russellville, Arkansas, graduating from Russellville High School in 1964.  He then attended Arkansas Tech in Russellville.  Richard was in the Army Reserves-Russellville Post, when he was called to active duty in Vietnam.  He proudly served his country in Vietnam as a Sergeant in the United States Army from 1968-1969, from which he was honorably discharged in 1969.  During his service, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Expert Badge (Rifle).  Richard graduated from Petit Jean Vocational-Technical School in 1971, where he studied landscaping and horticulture.

He met his future bride, Linda McClanahan, when he returned to Russellville after his tour of duty.  They were married April 15, 1971 and spent forty-nine wonderful years together, most of which were in Cabot, Arkansas.  He was a faithful member of Mountain Springs Baptist Church in Cabot.

Richard had a multi-faceted career starting with Avis Truck Rental in Fort Smith.  After his military tour of duty, he continued with Avis Truck Rental in Little Rock, where he served as branch manager.  Soon, his love of the outdoors and plants had him switching careers.  After many years in the landscaping and horticulture field, including North Little Rock Parks and Recreation, he retired at the age of sixty-two from University of Arkansas Medical Sciences, where he managed the massive grounds.

He was a lifelong Razorback fan and an avid fisherman.  Richard spent many hours fishing in the pond and he fed his fish every night.  The family often joked that the fish would decide which one would get on his line.  Of course, they knew once he brought them to the bank, he would toss them back in.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Linda Rogers; daughter, Robyn Hull, OD and son-in-law, Todd Michael Hull of Conway; two granddaughters, Whitney Elizabeth Wallace and Hailey Grace Hull; niece, Marianne (Steve) Parks of Atkins; nephew, Dennis Duryea of Russellville; two grand nephews; two great-grand nephews, many friends and his fur baby, Benji Beau Rogers.  Richard will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 15, 2021 at Mountain Springs Baptist Church.  Interment will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 15, 2021 at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock.  There will be a visitation for family and friends from 7:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at Thomas Funeral Service in Cabot, 501-941-7888.
